SIAKOBVU – In a heartwarming act of generosity and community upliftment, prominent Chinhoyi philanthropist Thomas Chidzomba offered a full academic scholarship to a rising teenage football talent during this year’s Nyaminyami Annual Tournament, held on Sunday in Msampakaruma.
The beneficiary of this life-changing gesture is Moses Chacharika, a Form 3 student whose skillful play on the field captivated spectators and guests alike. Chidzomba, who was attending the event accompanying Mashonaland West Youth Chairman Tapiwa Masenda, was so impressed by the young athlete’s potential that he pledged to fund his education from now until Advanced Level.
In a further show of support, Chidzomba—who is also the man behind Division One side Chinhoyi Rangers—offered Moses the opportunity to join the club and further develop his football career.
“Talent like this must be nurtured and supported. As a community, we must step in and help shape a brighter future for our youth,” said Chidzomba.
Moses, overwhelmed with gratitude, thanked Mr. Chidzomba for the life-changing opportunity and acknowledged his local team, Sea Lions, for giving him the platform to shine.
“I am so happy and thankful. I will not let this opportunity go to waste,” he said with a beaming smile.
The Nyaminyami Annual Tournament is more than just a sporting event—it is a platform for advocacy and social change. This year’s edition focused on two critical themes: the fight against drug and substance abuse, and raising awareness against poaching, both of which continue to impact rural communities across Zimbabwe.
The tournament attracted several teams and spectators from across the region, uniting under the banner of sport to drive home powerful messages of youth empowerment and social responsibility.
Thomas Chidzomba, through his charity arm—the Chidzomba Foundation—has become a beacon of hope in Chinhoyi and beyond. Known for his consistent philanthropic work, Chidzomba has invested thousands of dollars into community development, offering support to the vulnerable, the underprivileged, and the youth.
