Gospel Artist Caroline Tshabalala Gata Launches Debut Album “Baba Siyabonga” in Mhangura This Saturday

By Cimba Shepherd Nhamo

MHANGURA – Caroline Tshabalala Gata, a gospel artist with deep roots in Mhangura, is set to launch her debut album titled Baba Siyabonga this Saturday in Mhangura, the very town where her musical journey began. The launch is both a celebration and a tribute — as Caroline has intentionally chosen to honour her hometown by unveiling her first project among the people who raised and inspired her.

Backed by her ensemble Divine Tunes Music, Caroline brings a fresh, spirit-filled sound to the gospel scene with her 8-track project, blending powerful vocals, soulful lyrics, and rich instrumentation.

Born and raised in Mhangura, Caroline’s love for music began in the church, singing in the choir from a tender age. By secondary school, she had already begun writing her own songs, many of which she says are inspired directly by Scripture and dreams.

“The Word of God is my foundation. Most of the songs on this album were revealed to me through dreams,” she shared.

Before pursuing her music full-time, Caroline worked with Lever Brothers and later joined the Zimbabwe Republic Police, serving for ten years before retiring on gratuity. A short stint in South Africa followed, but she eventually returned home, where she now balances farming and music.

Her debut album Baba Siyabonga (translated: “Father, We Thank You”) is a heartfelt expression of gratitude and faith. It showcases a diverse range of gospel sub-genres—from worship to contemporary praise—anchored by her emotive delivery and powerful message.

The project is a team effort, with her husband Tembekile Gata managing the band and production logistics. Caroline also credits her father, Austin Tshabalala, as her number one supporter throughout her journey.

Divine Tunes Music Band features a talented lineup of musicians:

Tadiwanashe Mwera – First Keyboard

David M. Chikuvire – Lead Guitar

Tendai Dzapasi – Bass Guitar

Tapiwa Dzapasi – Drums

Tafadzwa Madalitso Banda and Tinotenda Mutonyo – Auxiliary Keys

Obert Teburu – Technical Logistics

The vocal section adds a dynamic choral texture, including:

Peace Daka – Soprano

Mazvita Muchemwa – Alto

Precious Nyanzira – Female Tenor

Kudzai Katurura – Alto

Nothando Mukondiwa – First Soprano

Caroline says this is only the beginning.

“This is my first project, but not the last. I believe in the calling God has placed on my life, and I’m just getting started.”

With Baba Siyabonga, Caroline Tshabalala Gata offers not just music, but a testimony—one that promises to inspire and uplift listeners across Zimbabwe and beyond. And it all begins this Saturday in Mhangura, where the community that raised her will witness the start of a promising gospel music ministry.
