The late Elizabeth Mdala

By Cimba Shepherd Nhamo

The passing of Elizabeth Mdala, the ZANU-PF Nyabira Youth District Chairman, has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many. Tapiwa Masenda, the Mashonaland West Youth Boss, recently paid a heartfelt tribute to this remarkable young woman, describing her as a patriotic and dedicated leader who fought tirelessly for the betterment of the youth in her district.

“Elizabeth was a shining star in our party,” Masenda said, his voice filled with emotion, speaking to this publication on the sidelines of the burial procession. “She was a dedicated cadre who rendered immense service to ZANU-PF and her country. Her passion and commitment to the youth were unmatched, and she will be deeply missed by all of us who had the privilege of working with her.”

Elizabeth’s journey was nothing short of inspiring. She defied the odds and broke down barriers in a male-dominated political sphere, emerging as one of the few women to hold a district chairperson position in the province. Her election as Chairman was a testament to her strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to her community.

“Elizabeth was a promising young woman who had a bright future ahead of her,” Masenda said, saluting her for her service. “The province has been robbed of a dedicated cadre, and her passing is a huge loss to our party and the youth of Zimbabwe. However, her legacy will live on, and we will continue to draw inspiration from her selflessness and dedication.”

Zvimba East legislator Kudakwashe Mananzva also weighed in, describing the late Elizabeth as a patriot who dedicated her life to serving her country and community. Her contributions to the development of her district and the empowerment of the youth will not be forgotten.

Mashonaland West province, where Elizabeth served with distinction, has been a hub of female leadership in recent years. The province is home to notable female leaders such as Mary Mliswa, the Mashonaland West ZANU-PF provincial Chairman, and Marian Chombo, the Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution. These women have been instrumental in promoting the empowerment of women and girls in the province, and Elizabeth’s contributions to this effort will not be forgotten.

Under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the second Republic has been championing the cause of increasing female representation in decision-making bodies. Elizabeth was a shining example of the impact that women can have when given the opportunity to lead. Her dedication and passion for her work earned her the respect and admiration of her peers, and her legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations.

On Wednesday, Elizabeth was laid to rest at Nyabira Grade cemetery, in a funeral procession filled with music and slogans. As people chanted and sang revolutionary songs, it was clear that Elizabeth was a commander who was deeply loved and respected by her community. The outpouring of support at her burial was a fitting tribute to her remarkable life, a testament to the impact she had on her community.

As we remember Elizabeth Mdala, we honor her memory by acknowledging the significant contributions she made to her district and the youth of Zimbabwe. Her legacy will live on, and her story will continue to inspire others to follow in her footsteps. Rest in peace, Elizabeth Mdala. Your memory will never be forgotten.
