Zimbabwe’s government has launched an ambitious housing project, unveiling 250,000 developed residential stands and flats in Manyame. This initiative, done in partnership with private players, aims to benefit both civil servants and ordinary citizens.
Notably, 20,000 of these residential stands have been reserved specifically for civil servants, demonstrating the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing options for its employees. This move is expected to improve the living standards of civil servants and their families.
The government has already surpassed its initial target of ensuring one million housing units by the end of 2025 and has revised its target to 2 million units. Local Government and Public Works Minister Dr. Daniel Garwe emphasized that Zimbabweans can expect well-designed, well-constructed, and well-planned houses.
“This project is part of our efforts to achieve Vision 2030, which prioritizes providing housing for all,” Minister Garwe explained. “We are committed to ensuring that every Zimbabwean has access to affordable and decent housing.”
The development of the 250,000 stands will take place in Manyame, located just behind the town of Chitungwiza. This project aligns with President Mnangagwa’s goal of ensuring every Zimbabwean, including civil servants, owns a residential stand, flat, or house.
Furthermore, Minister Garwe announced plans to launch more housing projects in other provinces, including the Nyore Nyore program in Manyame and a project in Chinhoyi that will deliver approximately 500,000 stands and units.
“We are going to be witnessing the launch of programmes such as the Nyore Nyore programme in Manyame, in other provinces,” Minister Garwe said. “We are responsible, as the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, to ensure that we provide well-planned and well-governed settlements.”
Pinnacle Holdings chairman, Dr. Chiyangwa, pledged to deliver 1.2 million housing units across various provinces. With these initiatives, Zimbabwe’s government is making significant strides in addressing the country’s housing needs.
The partnership between the government and private players is expected to bring in much-needed investment and expertise to the housing sector. This collaboration will not only provide affordable housing options but also create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
As Zimbabwe continues to work towards achieving its development goals, the provision of affordable housing remains a top priority. With the launch of this ambitious housing project, the government is demonstrating its commitment to addressing the country’s housing needs and improving the lives of its citizens.
The success of this project will depend on the effective implementation and management of the housing development process. The government, private players, and other stakeholders must work together to ensure that the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
Ultimately, the provision of affordable housing is critical to Zimbabwe’s economic and social development. By addressing the country’s housing needs, the government can help to improve the living standards of its citizens, reduce poverty and inequality, and create a more stable and prosperous society.
